Being based out of Toronto ourselves, we get asked to refer a contractor to replace windows on homes that will be renovated with our product. Rather than deal with this on a case-by-case basis, we figured we would open up our contacts to anyone visiting the site.
Vinyl windows are by far the most popular choice in the Toronto market. Manufacturers claim that they are virtually maintenance free and inexpensive to repair, making them attractive to anyone who has ever had to deal with wood windows.
Energy Star is the defacto standard when it comes to energy efficiency ratings with Toronto windows.
The majority of windows being sold on the market in Toronto are energy efficient models. They generally range anywhere from R2-R7 and can be manufactured either by one of the "big" brands that exist throughout Canada, or at times by the local installers themselves. What is important is to ensure that any windows you are purchasing have undergone stringent testing and have the certifications to prove it.
Generally, having windows that have been tested to conform to CSA standards is the important issue to look for. "Window Wise" and "SAWDAC" also have testing processes and are industry organizations for windows in Toronto.
